"Misty mornin,' don't see no sun - I know you're out there somewhere having fun - There is one mystery, yeah - I just can't express - To give your more, to receive your less." Words from Misty Morning by Bob Marley and the Wailers. This photo was taken on a dull, misty - but still so beautiful - morning at Pemaquid Point, Maine.

Thank you for submitting this photo to my Moody Landscapes challenge and for being the People's Choice winner. I immediatly recognized the location as Pemaquid Point as I have been lucky enough to have photographed that location twice. It is a unique place and you have captured it beautifully.

Location
"Misty Morning" was shot at Pemaquid Point, in mid-coast Maine. We were on a camping trip from Canada and exploring the area. The vivid memories from that trip, to Pemaquid Point especially, contribute to this being one of my favorite shots.Time
This photo was taken around 11:30 a.m. It was a misty, dull, August day in Maine - the third such day in a row.Lighting
The sun was definitely not a factor. There was no sun to be seen; no harsh sunrays were penetrating through those clouds. And no artificial lighting of any sort was used when I shot this image. I recall so clearly that Mid-coastal Maine was revealing its moody, grey side like a character in a good book. And I decided to go with that fact and the feelings engendered.Equipment
I used a hand-held Canon PowerShot SX30 IS camera. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
I was immediately attracted to the varied hues and the vertical striations, the leading lines, in the rock and terrain. Those streaks seemingly created a natural path to the cliffs, the people sitting and standing along them, and the ocean beyond. What also appealed to me was that the people portrayed in the image, literally, and figuratively speaking, were a small part of the picture, in comparison to the natural world around them. Yet, with the striations in the rock formations my eyes were naturally drawn to them.Editing
I saturated the color to bring out the striations, hue and formations in the rocks. In my camera bag
In my bag I always have my Canon EOS 1300D with a 18-55 mm standard lens, a 58mm HD 2.2x Telephoto, and a 58 mm. 43x HD Wide Angle with Macro lens and a few filters.Feedback
When you are on a location for only a brief time it is not always possible to do your research, be patient and wait for that perfect shot: grey days on a coastline are a reality of life. As photographers on ViewBug are continuously demonstrating, you can take a landscape shot under less than ideal conditions, and yet give that picture a sense of place, an almost palpable mood, and appeal.
