Location
This photo was taken on Flagler Beach in Florida.Time
This is one of my favorite images - not because I am satisfied with it from a technical and artistic perspective but because it evokes such positive memories. I took this image on December 24, Christmas Eve morning, as the sun was rising over the Atlantic Ocean on Flagler Beach. . My husband and I had the beach, and seemingly, that ocean that went on forever, all to ourselves. Except for the plovers, gulls and other birds, there were no other souls up and about.Lighting
The sun was blindingly beautiful and the sky was dazzling.Equipment
This image was shot with a Fujifilm Finepix S5700 with a fixed lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
Typically when you think of Christmas Eve and the Holiday Season, your first thought is not that of sunrise on the beach. But for me, walking along Flagler Beach that morning epitomized the joy and peace wished for and imparted by all those who celebrate Christmas. Capturing this image, I thought, was a wonderful way to greet a new day, the Holiday Season - and the promise of a new year.Editing
I lightened the image slightly as the waves were too dark for my liking. In my camera bag
In my bag, you will will now always find my Canon EOS 1300D camera, a wide angle and telephoto lens and some filters.Feedback
As an amateur photographer I am always reticent to offer advice to those more skilled and experienced than I am. But what I do know is that all of us, no matter what our level of expertise, are fascinated by sunrises. And when shooting sunrises it’s natural to be captivated by that vibrant horizon line and the stunning colors cast by the sun. Consider incorporating natural features such as water, rocks or trees and the sun's reflections on these elements in your composition. In the case of "Flagler Beach Sunrise" I also waited for a gull to fly into the foreground, adding another interesting visual element. The sunrise provided the great lighting needed to capture the gull's silhouette against the sky. You can enhance the appeal of those captivating sunrise shots by adding additional perspective, depth, a sense of scale - and your creativity - to them.
