This is one of those lucky moment pictures. It had been overcast the entire day so it was looking like no sunset would happen. After driving down a somewhat questionable narrow course in a rental van, we paid the $10 to enter and go just for the experience. There was an opening in the cloud layer above and I looked at my girlfriend and said "this could be epic or we could not see the sun at all."
Well, it was epic. I've watched quite a lot of sunsets-sunrises and it's rare for the sky to give off such vibrant gradient tones. So vibrant in fact that I had to remove a little saturation in this edit!

I admittedly like this photo more than most, maybe it's the bias from being there or just simply the appreciation for those tones in the sky. Seen a lot of sunsets, nothing like this one.
