A few fun facts about this photo. There is actually a WWI Bunker directly behind where I took this photo. The Dolomites provided the front lines between Italy and Austria during WWI. There are a ton of bunkers and tunnels throughout the area.

Also some fun perspective above this photo is that I am actually standing on a pretty decent slope. The pathway directly in front of me declines sharply down and you can actually make out a few people standing down there for scale although they basically look like ants. This spot is about an 1:15 hike from the parking area.

Behind The Lens

Location

Photography always struggles to show scale, specifically when you're shooting with such a wide focal length. If you zoom into the image and look where the pathway leads you can see a tiny red dot, that's a person. These formations are massive and were also used during WWI as bunkers between Austria and Italy.

Time

This was one of two visits to this spot and absolutely the best light I could ever ask for. It feels like ages since I've gotten a sunrise or sunset like this one which makes it all the more special.

Lighting

The lighting doesn't get much better than this.

Camera: Canon 5Dm4, 16-35mm f/4L Settings: 16mm, f/16, .4s, ISO100 Extras: Circular Polarizer

Inspiration

Nature never ceases to impress.

Editing

Two shot pano that took some extra work to align/straighten because I didn't have an even plane when taking the two shots. A tiny bit of contrast painting, cleaned up the sunburst a little, and finished off with some lightroom adjustments.

I'm super minimal. My bag is just a camera, wide angle lens, telephoto (70-200), circular polarizer, and a tripod. That's it!
