Location
This was taken in Joliet, IL. I do not have my own studio so I rented out a hotel room for this shoot.Time
This was taken during mid-day, but with the blackout shades I was able to make the room very dark.Lighting
I really wanted to capture the ambience from the holiday lights which were the only light source used during this set of photos. I wanted the lights to just highlight the model.Equipment
I took this photo with my Canon EOS Rebel SL1 and my 18-55mm lens. I set the camera to ISO800 to take in more light but just enough to highlight the subject.Inspiration
This was my first holiday themed set and I had seen photos such as this previously and wanted to try my hand. It was an extremely fun shoot to work on and I feel that you can see that in the final resultEditing
The only post-processing that was done on this photo was to clean up the lighting a bit. Otherwise the photo is displayed as shot.In my camera bag
I'm using a Canon EOS Rebel SL1. I've recently upgraded some of my lenses. I am currently carrying prime 55mm and 35mm in addition to my 15mm-55m and 75-300mm lenses.Feedback
If you want to try and capture something like this, my advice is just try it. You can try it at home with out a subject just to test out lighting or if you have a model to work with who is opening to experimenting different styles then go for it. You'll never know if you can do it if you don't try.
