Lighting

I tried to eliminate any catch lights in Ciara's eyes. I only used a single softbox.

Equipment

Nikon D300, 85mm f1.8 AFD, Alien Bee 800, 2'x3' softbox

Inspiration

The shadow over Ciara's right eye adds to her intense "don't mess with me" stare. Ciara has always had great eye contact with me - that is the inspiration.

Editing

I had to clone out some of the catch lights from her eyes.

In my camera bag

Crop and full frame sensor camera bodies, and many lenses.

Feedback

Take your time with animals, and shoot lots of frames. Give them some time on the set with no shooting to acclimate, and then add occasional shots (increasing in frequency). I've noticed this brings out the show off "I'm a star" attitude in some animals. If the pet seems stressed by the strobes - back off the shooting for a bit, and keep the pace slow and occasional.
