Location
This photo was taken in Maiga, a beautiful islet situated north east of Sabah, Malaysia. This is a native home of sea gypsies due to their nomadic, seafaring way of life. I am a self taught photographer, this was one of my field assignment for my long exposure photography lesson.Time
This is one of my favourite images and it was taken on June 13th, 2015 at 6:03 AM. I remember waking up around 4:30 AM then grab my gears to the beach, walking around in the dark. I could not set my tripod until the sun rising from the horizon.Lighting
This image was shot during the golden hour where the sun is low in the sky and shines with a warmer color.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 70D, with EF24-70mm f/2.8L lens, tripod, remote shutter release and ND filter.Inspiration
I wanted to picture the stilt huts built on top of the sea water and draw the viewer into a scene of sea gypsies village. The gypsy-esque lifestyle and they rarely set foot on land.Editing
There are many techniques for landscape post processing. My own preference of post processing is to restore the natural scene as I saw it and enhance the scene further when necessary. For this image I had develop the raw to correct the basic fine tune for white balance, contrast, highlight, shadow, lens correction and etc. Then follow by removing dust, hue and exposure adjustment. In my camera bag
With my current gears I always packed with my Canon 5D Mark 3 and Canon wide angle lens 16-35mm F2.8, this lens give me some options to frame the scene that I want. Also I pack with my extra camera battery, remote shutter release, 6 stops ND filter.Feedback
The reality of landscape photography is that not only are you reliant on your own ability and skill of seeing and composing an image, but also on Mother Nature. But regardless of spontaneous weather that you encounter, there are countless opportunities to be able to capture spectacular landscape photographs. Always plan ahead and be patient to capture the right moment.
