This photo was taken at my farm "Winter Haven Farm" just outside of Atlanta GA. This fall 2016.Time
Taken mid morningLighting
All natural light using typical bright mid morning sun.Equipment
Taken with my main camera a Canon 1D mark IV and a 24/70mm 2.8 lens. My settings at approximately f5.6, 1/800 sec, ISO 100Inspiration
I love my clients leopard Appaloosa and always enjoy taking the opportunity to shoot him.Editing
Quite a bit of creative freedom with this shot. I did basic adjustments in Lightroom and then moved over to Photoshop. In PS I cropped it , adjusted sharpness a bit, increased clarity and slightly de saturated. Then created several layers pulling in filters from Topaz. In my camera bag
my gear very often changes with what my shoot needs. In most cases I have my 2 main lenses. 24/70mm 2.8 and my 70/200 2.8. I shoot mostly sports so having a fast lens is important. I have 2 cameras but tend to mostly carry the 1D Mark IV. In addition I have plenty of memory cards, batteries, gaffer tape and at least one one flash.Feedback
Finding horses to shoot is pretty easy. But it is the knowledge of horses that helps you capture something special. I am a horse trainer and live with and work around them on a daily bases so I understand their behavior. If you are inspired to capture horses in a unique way and are not familiar with them find a trainer or experienced handler to work with you. They are amazing animals and full of personality and grace.
