Location
This scenery was captured in Quebec, Canada at the edge of Lac Blanc near the Mont Tremblant National Park.Time
This was taken on November 11th during a beautifully colored early sunset at around 5 PM. As you can see, the bald maple trees are colored orange by the amazingly colorful sunset on the opposite side.Lighting
What I definitely wanted to capture is not only the top bald maple trees colored orange by the sunlight rays from the other side of the river, but their reflection as well on the lake. The lake was so still as no boat dared to roam at this time of the year, and therefore the reflection was perfectly defined. The mirror effect was magnified by the silhouettes of the evergreen spruces in contrast with the orange maple trees!Equipment
This was simply shot on my Olympus E620 with a Zuiko wide angle handheld as soon as I noticed this very ephemeral light that lasted a few seconds only when the sun decided to set.Inspiration
Of course, the unique light and colors inspired me to take this photo. I was relaxing at the edge of the lake with a friend at the end of this beautiful November day in Canada, when suddenly these white bald maple trees turned out a bright orange color. The stillness of the lake was a bonus! I called it "Souvenir" as we were around Remembrance day in November. However, "Souvenir" can be interpreted differently according to different individuals. To me, it was both-sided. Captured during this special time of the year, and will remain a unique souvenir as well of my vacations in Canada on this Lac Blanc, and Mont Tremblant.Editing
I erased my front neighbors phone lines on the other side of the shore. I thought they were quite intrusive to the peacefulness of the scenery. I added a discrete contrast, vibrance, and saturation to the original. In my camera bag
Depending on where I am heading to, I usually pack different lenses. For landscapes, seascapes, shores, I will pack wide-angle lenses ZUIKO 14-54mm f/2.8 - ZUIKO 7-14mm f/4.0 ultra-wide - ZUIKO 14-35mm f/2.0 - I always carry many batteries as well.Feedback
Be prepared, be alert as the sunset doesn't last long. It is very short-lived! You don't have to include the sun in your image but essentially what surrounds the gleaming sunlight to get the greatest impact and make a strong photo. Watch always for the composition and the frame, that is essential in landscape photography.
