Recently I was hiking in the Swiss Alps and I found this perfect spot to pitch my tent. On the edge of a mountain ridge, I could see the entire valley in front of me when I woke up in the morning. Seeing the sun rise above a cloud covered valley was truly beautiful.

Location
This photo was taken at the end of a hike in the Swiss Alps, where I set up camp and watched the sun rise the next morningTime
I am usually not a morning person, but when campibg in the wild, I love waking up early to see the landscape being lit by the rising sun.Lighting
It's always hard to keep details in the shadows when shooting directly into the sun, so I shot three different exposures to create an HDR and use the best exposed part of every shot.Equipment
The photo was taken with a Canon 70D and the kit 18-135mm lens.Inspiration
When hiking and setting up the camp, I usually look for a slightly elevated place, preferably facing east where the sun will rise.Editing
Besides merging the HDR exposures, most part was adjusting the highlights and shadows, as well as increasing the vibrance and contrastIn my camera bag
I always bring a standard zoom lens and a wide angle. During summer time, when my hiking bag is usually lighter, I often also pack a fast wide angle lens for astrophotography.Feedback
Look for a place with low light pollution for the night and an interesting landscape for the sunrise. Mountains and valleys create nice leading lines and shadows, so any mountainous area wotks perfectly fine.
