A special thanks to our friend and professional photographer Kevin Pepper for his collaboration as a guest judge in this photo contest. Kevin Allen Pepper is a Sigma Pro photographer, a Panasonic Lumix Storyteller and Manfrotto Ambassador based in Canada. For the past six years he has been teaching photography to enthusiasts at some of the coolest places in Canada and around the world for companies such as Jennifer King Workshops, Arizona Highways, Jeff Wendorff Photography and Muench Workshops.
"Such peaceful balance between the colors in the sky and the colors in the foreground. There is so much interest to look at in this photo, yet it all blends together harmoniously. I also like the detail throughout the image. From the interesting and peaceful foreground, to the house with the reflections, the details and color command in the trees, to the mountains, and then up to the sky that seems to jumping off the image with a hint of motion blur." - Kevin Pepper
"I can see myself here. What grabbed me right away was the leading line by the river. It took my eye right into the center of the image… then from there, I explored. The Milky way, the tent, the definition created by light in mountains." - Kevin Pepper
"There is a juxtopision in this image between the mountains on the left and the man made structure on the right. Those mountains just drew my eye right to that structure. I also liked the mood by the imposing fog and sharp contrast look." - Kevin Pepper
"I like when an image tells me a story… and this one conjures up images of a cattle drive and sitting in the tent enjoying coffee after a long day. I’ve photographed scenes like this enough to know that having command of the exposure is not always easy unless the lighting in the skies and the tent are perfectly aligned. Kutos to having command of the exposure and still keeping details in the shadows." - Kevin Pepper
