Location
This photo was taken in Santa Monica Los Angeles. It was on the beach near the pier and big wheelTime
This was taken just before sunset around 1730. I set up on the beach with my tripod , ready to capture the sunset and the long exposure of the spinning big wheel. There was a lot of people so it was not very easy to get an image through the crowd , but after sometime I found a gap.Lighting
I wanted the image to be dramatic and I needed to show off both the colours from the sunset and the glowing colours from the big wheel. It was a challenge as I to get the spinning wheel on a long exposure and the sunset without overexposing the sky as this image was taken at a 20s shutter speed. The solution was to use a 10 stop ND filter to block the light by 10 stops and enabling the long exposure without over exposing the skyEquipment

The location inspired me and I have a passion for day time long exposuresEditing
I used both Lightroom and photoshop for post , but it was not heavy processing or HDR. I just adjusted the basic exposure and cloned out a few loose objections/junk which did not add to the image. In my camera bag

Try and buy a good quality ND Filter , the cheap ones are not sharp and will also discolour your image. Use Liveview to compose and capture the image as the ND filter is very dark it will not be easy to see through the lens.
