Location
I took this shot in Finistèrè, Brittany, France. It is a wonderful region facing the Atlantic ocean (like the spot in this shot) and the English Channel.Time
It was a windy, cloudy, rainy day of winter. My admiration to the surfers!Lighting
Not much, I liked the grey tones of the low clouds and the ocean. This is a black and white shot but even with colours the scene was pretty much the same.Equipment
I used my reflex with a 16-80 mm lens. Taken by hand.Inspiration
I was there to take some shots of a nearby lighthouse while I noticed the surfers. I liked the scene and I immediately thought it could be perfect for a nice black & white, with the contrasts between the white sea foam and the dark wetsuits of the surfers and the coastline.Editing
Black and white conversion plus minor adjustments in Lightroom. In my camera bag
To be honest I am not that passionate about the last available technology... I use a Nikon D500 with a Nikkor 16-80 mm to be ready for any situation I may encounter while hiking or scouting the area. I also usually bring a wideangle lens (10-24 mm) and a macro lens (90 mm) both by Tamron, and for wildlife, a Sigma sport 150-600 mm. Manfrotto tripods and F-stop backpack. From time to time I do also take some shot with mobile phones which are getting better and better. I am now using an iPhone 14 Pro Max.Feedback
Not much to say… But when you go out taking a planned shot, don’t forget to have a look around to take advantage of any photographic opportunity which may occur. And also, even if you are a nature photographer, give black & white photography a shot. It could be rewarding especially if conceived while taking the shot and not only in a second time, while in post producing.
