This was in the spring and at night after sun went down i took some photos in the area and then set up for this star trail. and in that time northern lights visited as well as the moonlightLighting
I used a relatively low ISO since it wasn't too dark. and also for better details. I was actually really lucky with how the moon lit the scene.Equipment
Canon 550d with Surui ballhead tripod, and sigma 10-20mm f3.5Inspiration
I loved the mountain profile of this mountain in other shots i'd seen so i wanted to take photos here with snow since i hadn't seen that before as well as sometimes a dangerous spot in the winter when it can have avalanches. but this was in the spring when a lot had melted and there wasn't too much snow left. I also love making star trails of nice scenes.Editing
I used star stax to divide the shot in two comet modes. One reverse of the other so the middle of the star trail is the brightest and the ends fade out nice for a smooth star trail. Other wise a basic editing and a little bit of dodging and burning to make it appear more 3D.In my camera bag
Sigma 10-20mm f3.5, sigma art 18-35mm f1.8, sigma art 50-100mm f1.8, tripod, headlamp, steelwool, matches, flashlight, extra battery, canon 550d.Feedback
experiement with blending modes of StarStaX. set up the tripod in a safe place and enjoy the time doing something else and after an hour or more try working with you got and see what you can do better next time. Try to find a landscape or compostion you like first so you will be proud of the result afterwards. a star trail of some silhouettes upwards isnt always that interesting so try to plan a bit before setting up. It takes a lot of time so planning first will make it more worthwhile.
