Behind The Lens

Location

I am a self taught photographer and have been capturing photographs with various cameras throughout the ages. Long before the age of digital. This photo is a self portrait that I took in my home on a beautiful sunny day.

Time

It was taken around midday when the sun was shining brightly through the windows.

Lighting

The natural sunlight was used to capture this shot. I wore a masquerade mask and positioned myself in front of a mirror and stood facing a doorway where the light was shining through. I captured the reflection of the doorway in my eye.

Equipment

I captured the shot with my Canon 6D set up on a tripod. The lens used was a Canon Zoom Lens EF 24-105mm 1:4 IS USM. It took a lot of patience to get the settings and the positioning of myself just right for the final capture.

Inspiration

The camera is my toy. Photography is my passion. Like an artist with a paintbrush, I have spurts of creativity and like to experiment and see what my camera and I can create.

Editing

I pretty much did just a basic edit of this photo to enhance the colors and clarity.

In my camera bag

My go to bag carries my Canon 6D, my Canon Zoom EF 24-105mm lens, a Canon macro lens in addition to extra batteries, battery charger and memory cards. When I am out for a day of shooting landscape or other such photography, I load my go to equipment and my Sigma 200-600mm telephoto zoom lens into my Nikon backpack and attach my portable tripod. Oh, and I also take my husband along. He carries my backpack and aids in setting up my gigantic lens. I call him my pack monkey. Insert smile here.

Feedback

Go ahead and experiment with your camera and equipment. See what they can do. Ten people could shoot the same subject and have very different photos. Try out different lenses and various settings. Even just changing the angle of the camera slightly will give you different outcomes, and will catch the lighting in different forms. Lighting is huge when it comes to the end product of your capture, whether it be natural or equipment.
