Location
This photo was taken in Ras Al Khoor a wildlife sanctuary in Dubai. I discover the place while driving my car and saw Flamingos everywhere in the area. There is a small parking area and I decided to stop. It has a covered and guarded place for bird watching purpose only. From there I saw few of this bird searching for their food.Time
Since I got my interest in photography and became my hobby, during my free time, I use to drive in many places to find some interesting subject to capture. And on February 12, 2016 at around 2:00 PM I was lucky to discover this place and awarded to capture this photo.Lighting
The month of February is the transition period of changing the weather condition in U.A.E. from winter to summer and the sunlight condition is getting warm giving the ambient light a great source of lighting for every subject outside.Equipment
I use my Nikon D810 attached to the 200-500 mm f5.6 lens at f8 aperture and 1/1600 shutter speed. This photo was taken handheld because I am not comfortable to use tripod on fast moving subjects during daytime with good light condition.Inspiration
I always love birds and wildlife in action and that's what triggers me to snap this subject instead of those flamingo which are just on stationary putting their head under the water searching for food.Editing
I was new to lightroom and learning post processing when I did this photo, I was playing with the basic tone adjustment and discover the dehaze slider that made the image clean. This subject was very far and focused at the center of the frame, so I crop it to give emphasis into this subject alone. In my camera bag
I use to bring important and possible equipment that can be use for any subject. This time inside my bag are Nikon D810 and Nikon DF or D500 with Nikor 50mm F1.4, 14-24 mm f2.8, 24-70 mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8 and 200-500mm f5.6 set of ND filters, polarizing filter, spare memory cards, spare batteries and a SB910 flash.Very bulky but it's better to be always prepared with the right equipment for a day of shooting. For short time and casual shooting a 50mm f1.4, 14-24mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8 and a flash is enough.Feedback
In photography searching for interesting subject requires time and patience, for birds subjects we have to wait and stay watchful for every interesting moment to be captured. It requires good camera hand holding capability and learn how to focus correctly to get a sharp and nice details of the subject. For this subject I use continues single point focus. Shoot early morning or afternoon since birds are active looking for food and the ambient light from the sun is at best during this hours. Practice, practice, practice and keep on shooting is the key to get better pictures.
