Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my kitchen. I am new to the art of photography, so I like to play around with different lighting in different areas of my house.

Time

This photo was taken in the morning around 10am. I was trying out my new macro lens with water droplets. I then spotted an orange and decided to test it out. I love playing and testing out with various items that involve with water. Before taking this image, I took pictures of water droplets by themselves.

Lighting

The kitchen was quite dim, however there was a window with some sunlight coming through. Still it was too dark, so I used the flash built in the camera. Also, there was the artificial light in the kitchen.

Equipment

This was taken with Olympus Pen E-P5 camera and a M.Zuiko ED 60mm f2.8 macro lens. A built-in flash in the camera was used. I had no tripod at the time. The photo was taken by free hand and with the help of the counter top in the kitchen.

Inspiration

It was still winter and too cold to go out to take pictures. So I decided to stay indoor and have fun with my camera. I was shooting at different shutter speeds and iso. But I was testing on taking pictures of water droplets themselves. After taking so many pictures of water droplets in macro, I decided to take a rest. Then suddenly I noticed an orange nearby and decided to give it a try. The photo looked so interesting so I kept trying out with various speeds until it came out right.

Editing

I know very little about post-processing. I use Adobe light room. The only thing I did was adjust the contrast a bit so the water droplets look clearer and bring out the orange colour of the orange.

In my camera bag

The Olympus Pen E-P5 with M. Zuiko ED 12-40mm f2.8 Pro for use during the day. M. Zuiko ED 60mm f2.8 Macro for any macro use. M. Zuiko Digital 17mm f/1.8 for night shot. The flash is built in the camera itself.

Feedback

It requires a lot of practice. I am very new in photography but I love to test it out with different settings on the camera. The setting was in manual mode, and I tried various setting shutter speeds and exposure. My advice is try it out with your camera at different settings and get to know your camera and have fun. Also make use to anything that is accessible to you.
