Behind The Lens
Location
West Yellowstone. I´d love to say it was in the wild but it was in fact in captivity at a rescue centre.Time
MorningLighting
The enclosure was shaded and the bird likely to move - so the ISO was increased to 400 and lens opened to f6.7 to allow a shutter speed of 1/1250. 2/3 underexposure however was dialled in to ensure the camera meter did not blow out any feather highlights (there´s nothing worse in a bird shot !).Equipment
Canon 550D at the time with a 100-400 zoom at 400 - subject only 3.5m away.Inspiration
The nobility of the bald eagle.Editing
Some darkening of the background to ensure the subject stands out. Some dynamic contrast added to show feather detail. In my camera bag
2 Canon bodies (at present both 70D). Canon lenses professional L series 100-400 and 24-105 zooms. Canon 10-22 wide angle zoom.Feedback
Fill the frame for impact, with the best lenses you can afford.
