The photo was taken in my makeshift studio in my home in Connecticut.Time
Since this photo was taken with studio lights I'm not bound by time of day. Inspiration usually strikes me in the middle of the night.Lighting
I used one strobe as back light and a reflector to fill in the shadows, which gives a lot of dimension.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 60D with EF24-70mm f2.8 lens. I used a tripod, strobe and reflector to get the shot.Inspiration
I actually had a dream that flowers were "bleeding" color. So I've started a series where I use paint dripping to simulate my vision.Editing
The only post-processing in this image is minor color correction. In my camera bag
I never leave without my Canon Extension Tube EF 25 II. I tend to see the world close up and love to shoot macro. I use it on my EF24-70 F2.8 lens all the time. Focusing with an extension tube takes a little getting use to, but I love the shallow depth of field and ability to turn any lens into a macro. And of course my Canon 60D body.Feedback
Patience is the most important element. I usually have paint spatter all over my walls and may shoot as many as 20 images before I even capture the drip. But when you catch it just right, the result is stunning and totally worth the mess.
