Location
Outside on my verandah.Time
It was late in the afternoon. I have shrubs on one side of the house and the afternoon light was beautifully filtered by the leaves of the shrubs.Lighting
I noticed how the light was beautiful and soft. It was filtered by the shrubs, so it wasn't too harsh, and noticed it would make a lovely background to the shot I was setting upEquipment
I used my Sony A7II, metabones adaptor and my Canon 100mm macro lens. Tripod and remote control were also used. Available light only.Inspiration
I found the colorful bug while out and about. The colors on its shell was beautiful, so I brought it home and set it up on a yellow leaf and then positioned it in front of the shrubs with the light coming through. I purposely chose a yellow leaf and yellow background as the insect was more blue in color. The colors are complementary and go well together.Editing
Clean edit in lightroom. In photoshop - curves, sharpening, dodging and burning, contrast, and vignette. In my camera bag
Sony A7II, metabones adaptor, sony FE 28mm, Canon 85mm 1.8, Canon 100mm macro. Spare battery and remote.Feedback
Study the color wheel and learn about complementary colors. Early morning or afternoon light is always the best time to shoot!
