I took this photo on my dining room table! It was a horrible day outside so decided to have a go at some photography around the house.Time
It was taken in the evening so there was no daylight impacting on the lighting.Lighting
It was really important to get the lighting right so that the heart was straight and central and also so the back of the book faded away. I rested a torch the other side of the book to create the heart shadow.Equipment
The photo was taken on an Olympus SP-820UZ. There was no flash as the torch provided all the lighting I needed and no tripod just a steady hand!Inspiration
I was looking online for photography ideas that could be done in the house and I came across images of rings in books creating a heart. I loved how it looked. I couldn’t see any that had been taken from directly in front so this is what I decided to do to try and be a little different.Editing
Some basic post processing like reducing the exposure slightly and increasing contrast. In my camera bag
I no longer have the Olympus this photograph was taken with. I now carry a canon 1000d. I have my standard 50mm lens and 18-55mm lens. I also have my canon 100mm macro lens which is definitely the one I use the most and what I have to thank for some of my best photos. I have a canon 10-18mm wide angle lens. Finally I have a small tripod.Feedback
It’s a really simple photo to take that comes out looking great so give it a go. Just ensure the composition is right so the photo doesn’t include anything outside the book if you don’t want it too. I used I bit of tape to hold the ring up because otherwise you’d be there all day trying to get it to balance!
