Great shot. Love the colors.....and you're so lucky to photograph him without him flying away!

ndejong, I'm not totally sure if i'm truthful. Could be a Tawny or Long Eared Owl.

Location
This photo was taken by chance while visiting a traditional Cossack restaurant north of Kharkov, Ukraine not far from the Russian border.Time
One of my favourite pictures from my trip to Kharkov. Friends were taking me out for an evening meal just skies were getting darker this owl came down and at sat on its perch about 4ft from where I was sitting with a group of friends. Surprised and shocked it was so close & even luckier as I had decided to take my camera out that night, just in case I saw something new.Lighting
Lighting in this photographer was all natural light for he time of day as it was just after dusk. When I got the photograph home I could of decided to factor in more light but I think the colour of the owl is more enhanced against the dark foliage.Equipment
This was taken using a Canon 70d with an EFS 55-250mm lens on f/8 6400.Inspiration
I've always loved birds of prey and I was granted an opportunity to take a lovely photograph of a wild owl. Probably never get that closer to another wild owl with a camera again.Editing
There was some slight changes in light\shadows to mainly bring out the colours and detail in the birds feathers. In my camera bag
At the moment I normally carry my Canon 70d, with standard EFS 18-135mm, EFS 55-250mm & prime 50mm lens with maybe one other lens depending on what I might be photographing that particular day. Other items in my bag includes extra batteries, cards and optional filters for sunny days or bright scenes.Feedback
Good question, but as this photograph was taken purely by chance I would almost have to say always be prepared and take a camera where ever you may go especially if its somewhere new.
