Location
This is the road that leads to the North Head Lighthouse in southern Washington State. While I was there to get pictures of the rugged coastline, waves, and the lighthouse, I saw this first and had to stop. This pictures speaks volumes to me every time I look at it.Time
It was late afternoon/early evening during the summer. We were heading out there for some possible early sunset pictures.Lighting
The super tall, old trees provided the perfect natural filter from the direct sunlight. I couldn't have improved upon nature in this one.Equipment
This was taken with my trusty Nikon D70s. Handheld, standing in front of the car.Inspiration
The sun's rays really caught my eye. That, and the green from the trees and the misty look from the water just added up to the perfect setting.Editing
Not much at all - minimal cropping and contrast adjustment. This truly was a picture that speaks for itself and I was just lucky enough to capture it.In my camera bag
I have since retired my D70s and now carry my Nikon D5600 and two lenses. Nothing fancy - yet.Feedback
The conditions have to be right, but you also have to be paying attention. You may have an idea of what pictures you want to take at your destination, but don't forget what is along the way as well. If you're someplace already beautiful, look for the stunningly unexpected!
