Outstanding image - talk about being at the right place at the right time! The fact that the dog seems mesmerized by the rainbow makes it great.

Location
This photo was taken in the meadow next to my home.Time
Most of the day rain had saturated the region, so I had been on my computer playing catch up most of the day, and didn't realized the rain had stopped in the late afternoon.Lighting
Sunsets are always a fascination, but rainbows are hard to come by; a matter of being at the right place at the right time.Equipment
At the time I had a Nikon D200, no time for for anything but camera.Inspiration
I was unaware that the sun had come out and was beginning to set. My dog, Moose, began barking, pulling my attention from the computer. I didn't see the rainbow at first, but looking out the window noticed how the colors had shifted to uncommon, very warm shades. Moose kept barking to be let out. When I opened the door he turned directly east...and there it was. I ran for my camera.Editing
I had a 16mm wide zoom that allowed the capture of the entire rainbow, so no cropping. Bracketing eliminated the need for post-production.In my camera bag
When traveling, I carry three cameras, four zoom lenses that carry a range from 16mm to 300mm, and one macro. I have a monopod and a tripod, along with back-up batteries, cleaning material, and a set of ND filters.Feedback
Be aware of the changing light at sunset, look for possibilities in late afternoon storms around sunset. Always search for potential sites with sunsets in mind ahead of time. Teach your dog to recognize rainbows.
