I took this photo at Lake Tahoe in December during a skiing trip. I was just getting into photography and hearing about this spot I knew I had to go! So I grabbed some buddies and drove to the spot, trying to figure out how to get to the rock and even getting down there. We eventually got down to the sand and setup my tripod and camera! This specific spot is called Bonsai RockTime
This was right around sunset. I remember looking up the sunset time and getting there an hour earlier to setup and just wait for that perfect shot!Lighting
I don't know what happened but that day was probably one of the gnarliest sunsets I've ever seen in my life and I'm so glad I happened to be at Bonsai Rock when it happenedEquipment
I used my dad's old tripod from the 80's because I had no money to get a nice one. At the time I was still using a crop sensor Canon 70D and my Canon 24-105L at 24mm.Inspiration
I heard about this spot and I knew I had to go there. Just getting into photography I was super stoked on any chance I could get to take a photoEditing
I didn't do too much processing other than increasing the contrast and exposureIn my camera bag
I normally carry minimal gear, I have a HoldFast Money Maker with my ONA Bowry attached with my Canon 5D Mark III and my trusty 35L and a 50LFeedback
Just try and find your own spot, really wait for the right moment. I came back another day and the lighting was a little different but it was definitely not as good as this time
