This image was taken on the far north point of Queensland in Australia. This beautiful little kingfisher migrates from New Guinea to breed in Australia. The males start to call for a female as soon as they have secured their territory then they select a small termite mound to nest in. They use their beaks to bore a small hole into the center of the mound where they lay 3 to 4 eggs. After the chicks are raised the kingfishers head back across the ocean to New Guinea.
