So this photo is one of many from a collection of Fun and Experimental photoshoots done while camping at Ohope Beach New Zealand which has now been the family tradition for 2 decades.Time
This was taken early morning as the sun rose behind the clouds.Lighting
I love moody images and don’t like working with Harsh direct sunlight, so this whole little photoshoot that lasted around 5 mins happened because it was overcast and it was supposed to be sunny for the rest of the holiday.Equipment
I just used my Canon 6D for this shoot with my trusty 50mm1.8 and handheld aswell. Didn’t want to get to crazy with gear since we were just running to take a few pics while we had some even light.Inspiration
Well this picture continues to inspire me. But I love long summer grasses and just the whole coastal vibe. And that coupled with a nice overcast day just screams my style. I love soft warm tones and earthy colours. The real magic has been in the editing though. I Hav edited this so many times and in so many different ways. And it took a while but this particular edit was so different, yet has totally changed my editing style as I loved this result so much I’ve continued to use it.Editing
So Unfortunately I do not Have “all the gear”. I do not Hav a computer of any sort. So this was edited on the iPhone app version of Lightroom. I played with the luminance a lot... that was the key to this picture. The models lips originally were not so Red or deep in colour and that’s the main thing I liked about this edit.In my camera bag
I shoot on a canon 6d body... and normally now the 85mm1.8 by canon. But always Hav along my 50mm and my 16-3m when I’m shooting more landscape shots.Feedback
All I can say is premeditate your shots. I knew I wanted overcast light and summer grass. So as soon as it was overcast I grabbed my model and made the most of the conditions that I knew I was after. So being able to know what u want and realise the conditions are right is very important. Also having the motivation to get up and go do something. With this shot I was relaxing and on a summer holiday. As my model and friend Erin was aswell. But knowing opportunities come and go we got up and went and took pictures... and look.... if I hadn’t been bothered to go out I wouldn’t Hav this pic which has been one to gain me exposure I never thought I was capable to receive.
