Location
There's a really nice indoor climbing hall in The Hague, "De Klimmuur" in the "Uithof" complex. It was a quiet time and we were allowed to place some flashes for the shoot.Time
It was a quiet afternoon and we were allowed to place some flashes for the shoot.Lighting
The flashes overpowered the ambient light, resulting in the black background. One (or was it two?) Jinbei HD600 on a high light-stand was placed behind the column, i.e. to the right, behind the climber. Two compact flashes (Yongnuo 560 III) with a blue gel were mounted on the wall above the climber.Equipment
Apart from the flashes (2x Jinbei HD600 and two Yongnuo 560 III) I used a D800 with a Tamron 24-70 mm and two radio triggers.Inspiration
The climbers in the hall are incredibly relaxed and experienced. I liked the idea of adding some drama with this setup.Editing
Conversion to black and white, some general adaptation of exposure and contrast. In my camera bag
Really depends on the shoot. I also think that the relevance of gear is overrated. Having said that, I love taking my Nikon D800 with a Nikon 85 mm, Tamron 24-70 mm and Tamron 70-200 mm. Also in the bag are triggers, batteries, model releases.Feedback
Keep it save! Make sure your models know what they are doing. Talk to manager of the place and arrange a date for the shoot.
