Behind The Lens

This photo was taken in the climbinghall "De Klimmuur" (deklimmuur.nl) in The Hague, The Netherlands.
I agreed with the people running the place to do the shoot when it's quiet in the hall, which was a weekday afternoon or early evening.
I placed several compact flashes on the wall, some behind the model and facing the camera, others camera-left. Additionally, there were some studio flashes on the floor to light the surroundings, but they were not fired for this shot.
I used a Canon EOS 600D and (if I remember correctly) four Yongnuo 560 III compact flashes, triggered remotely.
I was impressed by the relaxed atmosphere in the climbing hall and the professionalism of the climbers. I really wanted to catch that in a photo.
The original light setup was intended to produce a black background by not using the flashes on the floor, but then obviously the height and drama is less visible. I therefore increased the exposure of the background.
In my camera bag
It depends a lot on the shoot. I normally carry a Nikon D800, various triggers, batteries, model releases, and a selection of lenses.
To begin with, play it safe. Only work with people that know what they are doing. Triple-check everything, you don't want a flash or camera fall on anyone. Make clear arrangements with the the people responsible for the climbing hall. After that: have fun!
