Location
This photo was taken just outside my home, in Switzerland.Time
It was a snowy afternoon in the middle of December.Lighting
It was a cloudy day and snow just started to fall down, so I had the chance to have a very soft light. My cat has a creamy and warm fur, that contrast incredibly well with the cold color of the stone floor and its blue eyes.Equipment
I shoot with a Canon 5D mark III, with an 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
I have my design studio at home and my cat spends lot of time with me. It’s not often snowing in the southern part of Switzerland, so I took a break and I went outside. At first, I wanted to take a shoot to some plants in my outdoor terrace, but then my cat followed me and I took this opportunity to take a portrait of it in that beautiful and soft light.Editing
Yes, I did post-processing. In the original photo there was an orange vase in a corner, I deleted it from the background to have more focus on my subject. I added more snow flakes to drive more attention to the eyes, create some movement and reproduce the atmosphere that I felt in that moment. In my camera bag
I always have with me my Canon 5D mark III, the 24-70mm f/2.8 and 100mm f/2.8 lens. I really like the blur effect that can I have with that kit. Depending on the picture I have to take, sometimes I bring a reflector panel and my speedlights.Feedback
Animals are not so easy to photograph: they are unpredictable! The most of the time they move fast and you don’t have the time to set up your camera. So you need to be patient, gain the trust of animals and be respectful. You need to be ready and catch the moment.
