Location
This photo was taken on the deck of the newly renovated Blackfoot Inn, in Calgary Alberta Canada. The absolute best place to have a swimsuit shoot hands down. The staff are so amazing and will do everything in their power to help you get the best out of their amenities when shooting on site.Time
The time of day this photo was taken is typically the WORST WORST WORST time of day. It was high noon !! GASP. However, high noon is great for shadow play.Lighting
Lighting on this shot was purely sun beam given, can't argue with nature's strobe ;) Gets the job done 80% of the time.Equipment
The equipment used to capture this shot was my trusty Nikon D750 and my Sigma Art 50mm lens. Settings were pretty boring as far as creativity is concerned f/5.6 and shutter at 1/1600 with an ISO of 125. The most important piece of equipment was the "palm" leaf used to create this shadow and that I just picked up at my friendly neighbourhood Michael's.Inspiration
I was inspired by all the amazing creative shadow shot that litter my Instagram feed from other amazing photographers around the world. It's by no means an original concept but I had fun recreating with my vision.Editing
All post processing done was making it B&W to add a little drama. In my camera bag
The usual suspects in my camera bag are a Nikon body, some great Sigma Art lenses. I find that when shooting portraiture less is more.Feedback
My advice for anyone wanting to try a concept like this out would be go out and play with whatever shapes you want in a high noon situation and once you find the shadow shape you want to capture book the ideal model and shoot. Practice makes perfect every time.
