Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a local garden center nearby. I was just beginning to take photography more seriously at the time and this arrangement caught my eye with the color combinations so I did the best I could with my low level of experience. I figured if I did a fairly decent job, I might venture into getting more advanced camera equipment. I am getting better and have moved up to a dslr camera now. Being legally blind presents some unique challenges for me but I am determined to keep at it and setting the bar higher for myself.

Time

It was during the noon hour and it was a relatively warm fall day. The sun was bright and this display was facing the parking lot of the garden center. I felt a little rushed as my wife was waiting patiently as we were going out for lunch after we left here.

Lighting

The light was harsh and I was doing my best to limit the amount of it by staying tightly focused on the subject and hoping that it would just be backlit enough to get what I wanted.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon COOLPIX S3600. No other equipment was used

Inspiration

My wife and I were looking for some nice plants for fall planting and this caught my eye. The colors and mood just struck me as pleasing. We did not purchase this though as we already found what we wanted.

Editing

At the time I was just doing very little post-processing as I was also just learning this skill as well. I did try to minimize the harshness of the light the best I could.

In my camera bag

I now carry a Canon EOS Rebel T7, three lenses, a tripod and extra batteries. I tend to use up batteries a lot as I use live view to help me better compose with my vision impairment. I have gained more experience since taking this photo, I would say that it is wise to study your subject and try many different angles when composing your shot. Take your time and your efforts will pay off.

Feedback

Since I have gained more experience since taking this photo, I would say that it is wise to study your subject and try many different angles when composing your shot. Take your time and your efforts will pay off.
