It's an eyesore to some and magnificent landmark to other. Either way the Soul Tree has traction.
Me personally ... I love it!
It is in Barrie, Ontario around Anne Street North and Carson Road.
This is also where Anne and I took a "selfie" and sent it to Chris. Ask Anne or Chris how good the "selfie" was. We laughed soooo much. Hahaha
This poem used to be on the tree.
There once grew a tree
So stately and proud
You really could tell
It stood out in the crowd.
Shelter it gave to fur and to feather
Shade was it’s gift to all in hot weather
And the valley stayed green
‘Cos the air it did clean.
Then lightning hit
Now it’s as dead as a nit
So…
Let’s show that we cared
And give shoes that were weared
To make it so pretty
That folks from the city
Will come for a smile…
But just for a while
‘Till the developers come
And then ’twill be done.

wow, this is so cool. I have seen 'Sole Trees' when we have travelled but never one as full as this - fantastic capture and edit Cher. Wonderful Poem and so great to hear of your wonderful time shared with Anne. These are treasured times - we all need them. :)

It's amazing- you see collections of shoes in Lanark county, Ontario..but this is when the land has opened up, causing injury or accident. Nice to see the saga sense of belonging on this shot, nice treatment in monochrome, too.

Wow...I love this! This is one of those things that I'm sure looks better in b/w! Awesome capture and edit, Cher! :)

Location
I took this photograph of the Shoe Tree in Springwater Township just outside of Barrie, Ontario.Time
I captured this photograph at approximately 10:30 a.m.Lighting
No flash was required on this particular day as it was a beautiful warm sunny day and the natural lighting was just right!Equipment
I used my Canon camera which was hand held. I do not believe you do not need to have an expensive camera to capture a beautiful photograph. I feel strongly that cameras do not take the photograph but photographers do.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this photograph as I found it to be a unique find. To some people it is an eyesore but to others it is an interesting landmark which people talk about. When I researched its meaning I found the stories vary. Some stories about the tree say it started with a little tiff on a wedding night between a bride and a groom. The story goes on to say that the bride got mad and threw his shoes up in the tree. Others say when you came to stay at a family’s cottage in Wasaga Beach you would throw a pair of shoes in the tree. They just wanted to start something different and funky so when you drove by the tree you could say hey there's my shoes. Whatever the story is … the Shoe Tree has traction.Editing
The only minor post-processing I did on this photograph was to cropped it a bit and then I used Photomatix to make the photograph a bit more vibrant and changed it into black and white Otherwise what you see is what came straight out of my camera. In my camera bag
In my camera bag I carry my Canon camera, extra batteries, various filters, lens filter cleaner and extra memory cards.Feedback
I strongly believe that every photograph tells a story, so make your photograph tell a story. Photography changes the way you see things. You notice colours, textures, people, nature … everything around you looks different when you start to see the world through a lens. Have fun and enjoy doing what you love doing, which is taking photographs. Don’t follow your dreams … chase them.
