Chomper is a Great Horned Owl. He is a human imprinted bird who was taken from the wild as a baby by a family who attempted to raise and keep him as a pet. He was fed inappropriate food and grew ill as a fledgling. His favourite snacks are a wide range of prey items ranging from mice to rabbits, squirrels, and other mammals, as well as birds and sometimes even other raptors. With almost no sense of smell, Great Horned Owls often prey on skunks! Owls are powerful birds and fiercely protective parents. They have even been known to attack humans who wander too close to their young.

Fabulous capture and edit Cher. I can't get over the detail you can obtain with your camera. The story behind Chomper is so interesting. It shows so much that these creatures are not meant to live with humans, at least ones who don't know how to take care of them and feed them as they should be fed. I am so glad he was rescued. Thank you also for the History behind the Great Horned Owl, always new things to learn!

I was wondering how you got so close to this bird. They normally don't let anyone anywhere near. Gorgeous shot

When I was young I have seen that stare from many a teacher who always said on my report card that I should spend less time socializing and more time paying attention. Lol. Great shot and description.

Great capture! I love the description! I just spotted two of these yesterday in the trees behind our house. Hopefully they are nesting back there and I will be able to photograph them. I have been smelling the odor of skunk a lot lately. Might be why! ;)

Location
I took this photograph at the Mountsberg Raptor Centre in Mountsberg, Ontario.Time
I captured this photograph at approximately 11:00 a.m. in natural lighting.Lighting
No flash was required on this photograph as on this particular day it was a beautiful cool day as it had just snowed and the natural lighting was perfect!Equipment
I used my Canon camera which was hand held. I do not believe you do not need to have an expensive camera to capture a beautiful photograph. I feel strongly that cameras do not take the photograph but photographers do.Inspiration
I love capturing birds of prey as they are so regal and powerful. Each bird of prey, whether it be an owl, falcon or eagle creates a different and exciting challenge for a photographer in capturing the right photography at the right moment. Whether it is in the wild or in captivity it is always exciting to capture these beautiful birds.Editing
The only minor post-processing I did on this photograph was to cropped it a bit and then sharpen the image slightly. Otherwise what you see is what came straight out of my camera. In my camera bag
In my camera bag I carry my Canon camera, extra batteries, various filters, lens filter cleaner and extra memory cards.Feedback
I strongly believe that every photograph tells a story, so make your photograph tell a story. Photography changes the way you see things. You notice colours, textures, people, nature … everything around you looks different when you start to see the world through a lens. Have fun and enjoy doing what you love doing, which is taking photographs. Don’t follow your dreams … chase them!
