This Eastern Screech Owl Named Echo was taken at Mountsberg Raptor Centre. Echo hatched in 2002. If a Screech Owl feels threatened and is unable to retreat back into its nest cavity, it will pull in all of its feathers, stand up tall, close its eyes and put up its ear tuffs so that they look like a branch on the tree. They like to eat most kinds of small animals, including birds and mammals as well as surprisingly large numbers of invertebrates, including earthworms, insects, crayfish, tadpoles, frogs, and lizards.

Location
This photograph of the Eastern Screech Owl whose name is Echo was taken in the country where there are many wild birds of prey but there is also a facility where birds of prey now live as they are unable to be released back into the wild for one reason or another. It is called Mountsberg Raptor Centre which is located near Campbellford, Ontario.Time
I took this photograph on a cool but beautiful winter's day at 11:00 a.m.Lighting
It was such a beautiful day that no flash was required with this photograph.Equipment
I used my Canon camera which was hand held. I do not have expensive camera equipment nor do I believe that you need to have an expensive camera to capture a beautiful photograph. The camera does not take the photograph but the photographer does.Inspiration
I have always loved any birds of prey. I find them to be so regal, graceful, swift and powerful that they just amaze me. When the opportunity arose to photograph the birds of prey, I jumped at it.Editing
The only minor post-processing I did on this photograph was to cropped it a bit and then I used Photomatix to make the photograph a bit more vibrant! Otherwise what you see is what came straight out of my camera. In my camera bag
In my camera bag I carry my Canon camera, extra batteries, various filters, lens filter cleaner and extra memory cards.Feedback
I believe that every photograph tells a story, so make your photograph tell a story. Photography changes the way you see things. You notice colours, textures, people, nature … everything around you looks different when you start to see the world through a lens. Have fun and enjoy doing what you love doing, which is taking photographs. Don’t follow your dreams … chase them!
