Behind The Lens

Location

This is Én Cave, the 3rd largest cave in the world, located near the Center of Vietnam (Dong Hoi, Viet Nam)

Time

We started hiking at around 10 or 11 a.m. in the morning and arrived between 3 or 4pm. After arriving we take a short break and I decided to start climbing to the Swallow nests behind our tents because it has the great view of the cave

Lighting

One of the most impressive aspects of this photo is lighting. Inside the cave was quite dark therefore I had only two options: increase the ISO or use the tripod and take a long exposure shot. In the end, I followed the second option. I was quite lucky because we at the right time in the afternoon, therefore we could clearly see how the light travels inside the cave from the entrance

Equipment

This was shot on Canon 6D camera with 15mm fisheye lens. I also used a Benro tripod to take a 30 seconds long exposure shot

Inspiration

I had always wanted to visit this place after watching some advertising videos and reading an article of the local newspaper. There were some shots of the cave with similar view available on the internet but no one has tried the super wide angle fisheye lens. When we arrived I was wondering about the effect that the fisheye lens could give me and I was not disappointed by that.

Editing

I shot this photo in raw to have as much information as possible. After that, I did some small modifications to increase the contrast and the sharpness of the photo

In my camera bag

My favourite set is Canon 5D mark III, a 50mm f1.4 prime lens, a Canon 24-70mm, and a Canon 70-200mm.

Feedback

Your photo can be very different with different lights. Be patient and wait for the right time is the key point. I personally prefer to capture photos with strong contrast between the light source and the object. When the light source is not too hard, it can produce the smooth rays of light.
