This photo was taken right outside of our home in Bethlehem, PA.Time
This was the morning after the only blizzard we got. Probably, before lunch; while plows were still having trouble on the streets and the sidewalks were still covered in the 35 inches of snow!Lighting
It was a super-bright day! No clouds. Snow everywhere! I had to ramp-up the shutter speed a bunch!Equipment
My good ol' Canon 6D and 135mm f/2.0. This was very different than my pre-planned shoots. (I have a big-bag for those!) This was a simple "Grab my camera and go have fun!" type of shoot. (Mostly, we wanted to play in the snow)Inspiration
We were all getting a little cabin fever, due to the snow. The the next morning we went out to have some fun and I brought my camera. Raven, our pitbull terrier, was a little hesitant about the snow since she's only turned 2 years old and it's been nearly a year since the last snowfall. But once she got her feet wet (cold?) she had a blast and was running, hopping, and getting stuck in snowbanks for a good while! We all had a blast and as you can see from her face, Raven was loving it!Editing
Just a bit of sharpening and pulling the highlights down. It was a bright day!In my camera bag
First thing to go in is always my 6D. And depending on the assignment (Am I running around or am I in one place for a while?) determines how many lenses and other gear I bring. A full kit usually carries my 50mm f/1.8, 17-35mm, 135mm f/2.0, and my 70-200mm L4. Other essentials would be an off-camera flash (I use the canon 580 EXII) with a set of ETTL triggers and a small 24"x24" softbox. And definitely a reflector or two. Because, sometimes you only need natural light!Feedback
Get low! I love seeing the 'flying dog' photos where they appear to be running right at the camera! So, to get this shot I ended up laying, belly down, in the snow!
