this shot reminds me of that movie with Hatchy, it was a Japanese dog, starring Richard Gere. It's like saying: I'll be waiting for you...forever!

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the Glen Onoko Falls in Jim Thorpe, PA. The tracks are at the beginning of an hour hike to the top of nearly a dozen waterfalls.

Time

This shot was about noon on a mostly over-cast day.

Lighting

All natural lighting. A mostly over-cast day allowed for some softer light and shadow.

Equipment

Canon 7D Canon 24-105mm L4

Inspiration

A shot of someone is always one that we see, everywhere; but we still have to take it! And the only inspiration I needed was of this 'not-quite a year-old' puppy and always has us smiling.

Editing

There was only a bit of post-processing work done to this photo. Cropping, straightening, contrast, and a light vignette are just a few.

In my camera bag

When hiking around I usually like to keep it simple: My trusty 7D Canon 24-105mm Canon 70-200mm Peak Design Capture Clip Pro Manfrotto Tri-pid Spirit Level Remote shutter Various ND and Polarizing filters And other essentials.(Batteries, Memory cards, etc.)

Feedback

This shot was actually not my initial goal. I wanted to go WIDE! I wanted the focus to be the expanse of the landscape in contrast to Rave, our little four-legged trooper. When I finally got home and took a look at my images, I knew that the landscape didn't give me that extra push in the image. It was Raven. From her eyes to her not-so-evenly-floppy ears, I knew she was what would make the image. I got a lot of great landscape and waterfall shots that day. But, when I shot the railroad tracks, it was Raven that made the image what it was. So, if there's any 'advice' I could give anyone; it would be: Be open to the fact that what you want your image to be might not be what your image will become. Having goals for trying new shots, or even a different angle from an old shot, doesn't narrow down the possibilities. Sometimes the better picture isn't always the bigger picture. Look closer and enjoy the moment!
