This photo was taken near my families farm in a canola field. A friend of ours had some new calves born over the last month. One of the mothers wouldn't accept her baby. So we took over the responsibility and would feed the calve around the clock. She became really friendly and would follow us everywhere. My daughter fell in love and we called her Ruby.Time
It has been a while since I've taken this photo, but I believe it was around 5pm. Here in Saskatchewan, during the summer, the sun doesn't go down until about 9-10pm, dark at 11. Which can be great for some, but for little tiny toddlers, golden hour can be difficult.Lighting
This shoot wasnt planned in advance. I just happent o carry around my camera almost everywhere I go. The sunlight was harsh, but I made sure that i had the sun behind my subjects.Equipment
This image was shot with my old equipment. My Nikon D610 & my Tamaron 70-200mm.Inspiration
The shoot wasnt planned, but i do carry my camera everywhere. My daughter had her cute farm girl dress on, and we were playing with the calves. Whats cuter than a baby animal and a baby human? Right? The canola is super beautiful. So it makes a great photo put all together.Editing
Not a lot has been done to this image. I had to add in the sky & a ray of sunlight afterwards. Skin touch ups and thats about it.In my camera bag
Now, in my bag, I carry my Nikon D4, 200mm 2.8, 70-200 (for when i am feeling lazy and dont want to carry all that heavy equipment around) for my outdoor shoots. My studio shoots I always have my Nifty 50 & 24-70mm.Feedback
My advice for trying to shoot a similar situation would be to let it be natural. Go with the flow. Be aware where you place your subjects but other than that, let kids be kids.
