Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo near the beach side very close to Black Sea, in an old abandoned summer camp. I was so surprised to find those weeds growing up around that place so I immediately decided to use that scene for few shots.Time
Although the Sun is very strong in August, that evening somehow the light was perfect, not to strong to bother me but especially my model also not to weak to force me to add artificial light for a proper exposure.Lighting
Having this beautiful sunset light available, I decided to use is in such way that my model to lighted from behind. Because everytime you chose to use the light in such manner, a fill light is absolutely mandatory otherwise the subject face will in total shadow. So, I redirect some of the sunlight using a 90 cm round sun bounce reflector to get that beautiful fill light on model's face.Equipment
I wanted to obtain a nice gradual blurry background and for that reason I've used on my Nikon D750 a 70-200 mm f/2.8 lens from Sigma. Also the f/4 aperture helped me to obtain the background exactly as I want it. I use ISO 100 as often as I can and because the light was so great and plenty of it, I used an exposure time of 1/640 s.Inspiration
A good friend of mine that is also my favorite make-up artist and hairstylist suggested me the idea. I've look for the proper place, she had chose the model and there we were, working on this wonderful project.Editing
I always shot in Raw format so every single image must be automatically opened with Camera RAW of Photoshop. Also Photoshop is the only post processing software that I use, together with some add-on filters from Nik Software and On1 such Perfect Effects 9. For this particular photo, I've used some of the filters from Perfect Effects 9, such as: sharpening, a little bit of HDR, one filter to slightly smooth the skin tone and finally a very little vignetting. In my camera bag
Beside my Nikon D750 main camera, I always carry with me a back-up camera, a Nikon D7100. My favorite lenses are Nikon 24-70 mm f/2.8 and Sigma 70-200 mm f/2.8. I got also two prime lens of 35 and 50 mm both with f/1.8. A Tokina 12-24 mm f/4 wide lens is always mounted on D7100 and I also got an old Nikon 28-105 mm f/3.5 - 4.5 lens which has also a Macro function. Last but not least, I have two Nikon SB900 flashes for those moments when natural light is not enough.Feedback
Make yourself a nice team with a hairstylist and a make-up artist. You will be surprised to see a lot of great ideas emerging from this partnership. Also choosing few models to take part of such team will be very useful for you as a photographer because your models will feel very confident to work on a project they also believe in it.
