Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home In Erie, Pennsylvania.

Time

I was up very late at night trying for the life of me to be creative. I remember looking out the window and what caught my gaze was a patch of dandelions in the grass.

Lighting

No,I just used a simple lamp to light my subject. I'm just starting to get really serious with my photography and have not been able to to afford lots of equipment. mostly everything I do is D.I.Y.

Equipment

This photo was taken on a Nikon d3200 with just a basic kit lens. Proof that you don't always need the best equipment to make a good photograph.

Inspiration

As I stepped outside the cool damp air hits me, the warm smells of summertime campfires down the road sneak their way into my nose. this is what i felt as i walked to the side yard to grab this perfect dandelion. I thought to myself well now i got the subject what do i do now. The smell of campfire still lingering and It hits me, Lets light this thing on fire and see what happens!

Editing

I never really like to do anything drastic to photos besides the normal color corrections and a slight contrast boost. In this photo however i also decided i would cut out the lighter I used to light the dandelion.

In my camera bag

Well quite frankly, I do photography on a budget. I own one kit lens a Nikon d3200 and a circular polarizer. so those are pretty much what I take with me everywhere.

Feedback

In order to take this photo I first had to find a way to get the dandelion to stay upright. I found using a small chip bag clip worked the best for me. Light the subject how you see fit and what ever works best for you and your style. In this case I used a small lamp about a foot away to the left just to light the stalk a bit more since I was in a mostly dark room. As for my aperture I was at f3.5 and I used a fast shutter speed because when you light them you really only have a split second to take the photo before they burn out.
