But there's nothing that's in focus apart from the edge of the petal!! A better point of focus would have been the drop of water and with a crop that emphasised this POF?

I believe you are jealous that you are not in focus. I am intrigued by this photo the POF brings you to look at the flower as a whole not just the raindrop. Thank you I am inspired.

Location
I took this photo at the Portland Oregon Zoo.Time
It was early in the afternoon. It had just stopped raining and I decided it was safe for me and my camera to venture out.Lighting
The sun was just starting to come out after an early morning rain.Equipment
Nikon D5000 with a Tamron 18-270mm.Inspiration
The rain drops on this flower caught my eye. I had only owned a dslr for about 3 weeks when I took this. If I could go back I would have liked the rain drop to be more in focus.Editing
Only post-processing I did was to increase the contrast. In my camera bag
Right now I have a Nikon d7200 with at Tokina 100mm macro lens. Also carry a Tamron 18-270mm.Feedback
Don't be afraid to get dirty. I was on my knees leaning over a puddle to get this shot. I have laid in mud to get the shot I wanted.
