This photo was taken at my home studio in Savoy Estates Johannesburg South AfricaTime
This is one of my all time special images, first I love cheese and figs and in preparing a platter it just happened. I ran to my studio and added the running syrup, placing it on a black perspex table top setup. I have the perpex in black and white always ready in my studio.Lighting
I love Rembrandt lighting and often apply it to my portraits so it is always ready in my studio. I used a soft box at half strength. The darker set up gives an otherwise ordinary subject a bit of drama.Equipment
My tri-pod is always in my studio as I love any low light setup and do not want any movement. I use a Canon 5D mark 2 and 3, I think this was done with the mk2Inspiration
Food glorious food, I am always inspired by a good presentation. The combination of colours and the contrasting textures as well as the symmetry of this image inspired me to do more food shotsEditing
In this case I did very little post processing. I gave it a soft S - curve and removed some reflections of the syrup as it looked wrong. Nothing more in this image. In my camera bag
I always have both my CANON 5 D mk2 and 3 in my bag. My macro lens for the 2.8 f stop and my 24 -100 mm for the width. When I go to the bush as we have a house at the Kruger National Park I use my 100-400mm on safari.Feedback
My advice is to always have a table top set up ready and be ready to shoot when you see it. It is not always easy to recreate a nice shot once you have seen it. I love playing with food so I often mess up my meals as I get carried away shooting instead of cooking. Always keep syrup in various colours in your studio....it works even on other non food subjects
