This photo was taken at the "Palais des Congrès" in downtown Montreal, Canada, my hometown.Time
It was beginning of summer in June which is when Montreal wakes up from it's winter slumber and comes alive! (We do have fun in winter mind you). This picture was taken around 2 pm on June 15th.Lighting
This particular place is famous for it's colored windows and when the sun shines at particular moments of the day, we are greeted by this wonderful blanket of colors. I only used the (very funky) natural light of the place.Equipment
The saying " the best camera is the one you have with you" has never been so true! I was not planning on taking any pictures that day so I ended up taking this with my smartphone, a Nexus 4.Inspiration
As I said, I was not planning to take any pictures that day, My friend and I were heading to a beer festival when we passed through this part of "Palais des congrès", an exhibition center in downtown Montreal. As soon as we arrived, I acted fast, let my friend walk pass me and framed my shot with my trusty smartphone without even telling her. I thought the sight of this girl, wandering in this land of color was perfect. My friend loved it as well.Editing
The only post processing I did was to ever so slightly boost the colors using my smartphone's editing features to give it even more of a pop.In my camera bag
I usually have a Canon 6D with a pancake 40mm f2.8 and a 50mm f1.8 and my 70-200m F4, all by Canon. I also had a Canon T2i with a 17-50 2.8 Tamron Lens at the time. I did not want to carry any gear with me that way which is why I had to turn to my Nexus 4 for this shot. Since then I sold the T2i and bought an Olympus E-M10 with a 25mm 1.8 lens which is now my walk around camera of choice. It's so small I don't mind carrying it with me everywhere I go. I use the 6D on planned shoots or photo outings.Feedback
The obvious advice I would give if u come across this particular place in Montreal is to go during the day on a sunny weather. There are so many possibilities with this enchanting light. But I think the most important lesson to take from this is to always be aware of your surroundings even when you are not planning on taking pictures. You never know when your city can surprise you! A simple smartphone and being at the right place at the right time resulted with one of my most liked pictures. I also have to thank my friend Amy for making this picture complete with her beautiful presence and sense of wonder!
