I had the opportunity to photograph a K1 kickboxing event for Contender Promotions recently. It's the first time i've tried sports photography and I have to admit it's one of the most challenging subjects i've tried to date.
This is a shot of the fight between Cal Hewitt and Micheal Etherington. I really liked the lighting on this shot and thought it would make for a nice monochrome conversion. Michael (the guy throwing the kick) was defeated by Cal by KO. Michael contacted me requesting a print of this shot shortly after posting it on my Facebook page. He said to me 'at least one good thing came from this fight'! It fills me with satisfaction to think that in some way this picture gives Michael some of his pride back after his loss. The picture clearly demonstrates him putting up a good fight.

Thanks a lot! It was very difficult to shoot this kind of event. Very very fun though!

I never tried sports photography but this picture is truly moving. In this particular example detail/resolution truly matters. It shows the straining muscles and the expressive faces of the audience. A grade A picture !!!!

Well done! I have covered a few kickboxing events and the light and speed of movement makes for difficult shooting - this is superb and spot on B&W tones
