Location
This photograph was taken in the city park. The sunlight was perfect doing back lighting. This place has magic all aroundTime
The picture was taken at the end of the afternoon, about eight o'clock, almost sunset in August in Porto. I love how the sunlight tears through the park, and enhances the colors.Lighting
The sunlight was the main reason for this photograph. It made the perfect light clipping in her hair. Unfortunately I didn't had a flash with me and the model's skin was very tanned, so the original is more contrasted and her face is darker.Equipment
I used my Nikon D800 with an exposure time of 1/100 and f4 aperture on my Nikon 70-200. Focal length was almost 200. As mentioned before I did not had a flash that could had been very useful or even just a reflector for her face.Inspiration
Firstly, the influence of sunlight on the model, the color temperature and the shine of the hair. It should be noted that it was the end of a photo session with clothes and we were already on our way to the car when this scenery appeared and I couldn't resist taking one last photo. When I do sessions with models outside, I never pack my camera before getting to the car precisely because of these light or scenarios surprises.Editing
Yes. As I said, the sunset back light hit the model and her hair, and her very tanned skin forced me to remove contrast, pull blacks and adjust colors. The original is much more contrasted. Not that I don't like the original, but I wanted to enhance the model's expression a little more here.In my camera bag
Since I bought a smartphone, I stopped bringing my camera with me on a daily basis. And for security reasons. I'm still from the time when I carried everything in the trunk of the car to have the equipment always at hand. On this day I only had the 3 lenses that I use frequently, the 50mm, the 70-200 with which I took this photo and the 28-70mm. And my D850 obviously. But a lot depends on the work I'm going to do and where and with whom and for what. Sometimes when the client is new, or I don't know the place, I also take reflectors, tripod, and flash.Feedback
Have fun and always be minimally prepared when you are abroad and you still have the model around. Light fascinates me and being able to be ready to take advantage of it is a bonus that can sometimes be rewarded. Taking pictures shouldn't just be about knowing how to use the camera and the lenses. Knowing the places, how the light behaves there is also important, especially when it comes to selecting the material that you will take to photograph. I knew everything and still failed when I chose not to bring a flash or a reflector. I confess that the habit of taking pictures with the smartphone made me lazy. Don't fall into the same mistake if you can.
