Behind The Lens

Location

I had bought some Kiwi for the family and prepared a plate for a few macro shots at home

Time

The photo I had taken during the winter February, 2014 just around lunch time

Lighting

There are the golden hour moments for photography, but sometimes my commuting to and from work times I take photos when passing by places or travelling with friends and family, and I can't wait for the perfect time. I guess it is a bit easier when travelling with fellow photographers since they have an understanding of what you're doing and more patient to let you stay and take your time instead of telling you to hurry.

Equipment

Nikon D90 camera, tripod to keep the camera in the same position, Sigma 105 macro lens, cable release and then just the natural light from the windows

Inspiration

The color of the fruit as well as the abundance of small seeds, as well as being a tasty fruit to have after shooting

Editing

Post processing I'm somewhat doing minor work, mostly cropping and some light exposure adjustments. Recently I started using some more presets that are available. I checked my raw file and don't think that I cropped the image and just altered the color slightly to give it a slight touch of red or magenta

In my camera bag

Often since I commute to and from work on my bicycle, I like to carry my D90 with a fixed 24mm f2.8 or my 50mm f1.8 fixed lens. A few weeks ago I borrowed a friends 35mm f1.8 and I was really impressed with the sharpness and clarity of the lens. Then I also take my +5 filter with since it is lighter and easier to take with me than the 105f2.8 macro lens. when using it on my 50mm it has a similar effect than the macro lens, but I also like using it with the 24mm since I can get some good close ups with a wider effect for landscape like city gardens and such. I also at times take my Manfrotto 190 tripod with I think a 498 ball head since I wanted something that can handle the camera tilted sideways and with the battery pack support the weight in the verticle position. For the tripod I have both a carrying strap and tripod case, the strap I like since I have quick access to the tripod and isn't as bulky as the bag when carrying on my back. Normally when going to work or bike ride I travel light, then if I know that I need to take a few more things, I will use my Crumpler 6million dollar bag, I like that for taking a flash a few extra lenses and can carry my camera with the battery grip attached. The one important thing that I try to do is to carry my camera almost always with me since you never know what might come up be a landscape shot or street shot, etc. I also carry a few Hoya nd screw on filters, but the one that I take with even at night is my circular polarizing filter. Why at night? since I can alter the reflections on windows and glass. I think that is one filter I can't live without.

Feedback

This was an indoor shot using natural light, with thin sliced kiwi fruit laid flat on a dinner plate. Even when shooting at faster shutter speeds using the tripod helps tremendously. Since the fruit was still I could have used a slower shutter as well as a lower Iso setting
