Location
Taken on a hot and understandably busy evening at El Matador state beach in Malibu, California.Time
Sunset. This is a Westward view of the beach from above, just off the trail that leads downward.Lighting
I waited for the sun to dip just below the horizon into the distant cliff face. I felt that it would accentuate the setting sun and add a favorable sunburst effect to the shadowy cliff.Equipment
Nikon Z7ii, and a tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. Handheld. Natural lighting. I didn't bother to try bracketing or focus stacking on this shot due to the movement of the waves and all the lovely people below. :)Inspiration
I wanted some beach sunset shots, but as one can clearly see, so did many others on this hot day. Instantly upon arrival, I knew I would have to come up with something other than a beach level composition. No problem! I halted my hike at this vantage point primarily to preserve my spot, but also just to take in the happenings from above. There were many leading lines heading all toward the setting sun. I waited for exactly the right moment for the waves to be spaced perfectly apart, giving me the lines I was looking for.Editing
Adobe camera raw post processing. Color grading and enhancements for highlights, shadows, details. Find some of my edits on the discover tab in lightroom! In my camera bag
Nikon cameras and tamron SP lenses. ND filter/ tripod for waterfalls.Feedback
Think outside the box and don't be afraid to call an audible, or be discouraged by finding something other than your initial plan unfolding.
