Behind The Lens

Location

A couple of days earlier I had been out shooting cherry and magnolia blossom. This first of April, I woke up and I thought it was April’s Fool’s Day because it had snowed heavily over night so we went out to the park here in my hometown to check what had happened to the trees over night.

Time

It was in the morning but not too early.

Lighting

Thanks to the snow there was a natural white light but at the same time the balance between under and over exposure was not so easy. I shot this picture with an open blind and a bit higher ISO.

Equipment

I only used my Canon EOS 1200D and the basic 18-55mm lens. A tripod might be recommendable as well.

Inspiration

I wanted to keep a memory of this unique picture - a big bloom with a big cover of snow. That day it simply looked like nature had frozen but it was a frozen cold beauty worth a picture.

Editing

I only did the usual soft editing (especially increase the brightness) and I removed a second flower above the snow on top of the flower because I wanted the subject to stand alone for itself.

In my camera bag

My bag has grown over time but it’s still a beginner’s bag. I have my standard lens and a zoom lens to choose from, my charger, a change battery, a grey filter and an extra SD card. My standard lens also has a UV filter.

Feedback

When you see something extraordinary like this happening, no matter how tired you are, go for it. As for flowers, I always try to bring out their beauty and in this case, the cold beauty with an enormous snow heap.
