.....Whoop Whoop Whoop Whoop Whoop Whoop
......This famous noise has been in so many movies and tv shows ...and it comes from this helicopter
Ground debris whips thru the air as a UH-1N Huey makes its approach. The original Huey was actually named HU-1A ...so if you say HU1A about 100 times ...you can see why it got the nickname Huey.
.....The Huey had close to 18 models and the one pictured is I believe a UH-1N. When you think of a helicopter sound ...it more than likely came from this helicopter ...it is iconic! ...this sound is produced because the helicopter has just 2 very wide blades.
.....As the blades spin they produce a vacuum of air due to this width .... That blade width is called Chord ....so Big Chord equals Big Slap or rather Big Noise..... That Whoop Whoop Whoop sound you are familiar with is called Slap!
.....The UH-1N Iroquois pictured is it's full name ....A twin engine in service from 1970 up into 2015.....Often had a 50 cal machine gun and a 762 millimeter machine gun, one on each side. But it also had grenade launchers in another configuration which fired up around 1500ft ....as well It could carry 15 men in special operations capacity ... or 6 litters in Dustoff operations.
.....Dustoff operations are where this Twin Huey was often sent into battle areas under fire to retrieve wounded and deliver the wounded to medical camps ...usually about an hour away from the battle This type of engagement produced over 3 times more airship losses than average.
.....The UH-1N was often sent in support of Cobra helicopters because the UH-1N had a wider spray of gun fire in live engagement.
.....Not only was the UH-1N used in special forces missions and wounded evacuations, but it has served to transport troops over terrain to a battle front where it would then wait to carry casualties to medical camps.
.....As well this helicopter was used to carry high ranking officials, senators, and even Presidents ....this workhorse airship has been in every war conflict form 1970 to 2015 and then some...it also serves in the private sector as well in a vast array of utility.
